Every production batch is sampled for 96-hour ASTM B117 salt spray exposure, with plated-steel controls run alongside so the difference is measured, not assumed. This testing discipline, combined with ISO9001-certified processes and EN 10204 3.1 material certification per heat, means the "anti-corrosive" on our label is a verified specification — not a marketing adjective. We also run nickel-plated steel control coupons from a commercial source alongside our Ni200 samples, so you can see the quantitative corrosion difference under identical test conditions. Zero red rust on Ni200 after 96 hours is the standard; plated steel typically shows rust spots at weld points within 24–48 hours.
Pure nickel in a marine atmosphere forms a thin, adherent nickel oxide/hydroxide passive film that is chemically stable and self-limiting — it grows to a few nanometers and stops. Unlike iron oxide (rust), which is porous, voluminous, and continuously propagates, nickel's passive film is dense and protective. This is the same mechanism that makes Monel (Ni-Cu) propeller shafts survive decades in seawater. For 18650 packs deployed on fishing vessels, coastal telecom towers, or tropical outdoor ESS cabinets, solid Ni200 strip will not rust.
Yes — positively. Hydrogen annealing at 850–950°C chemically reduces any surface nickel oxide formed during rolling and slitting back to pure metallic nickel. It also decomposes and volatilizes organic lubricant residues. The result is a chemically clean, oxide-free surface that forms its natural passive film uniformly — without the uneven oxide patches that can act as local corrosion initiation sites on non-annealed strip.
For 95% of 18650 pack environments — including outdoor e-mobility, power tools used in humid conditions, and coastal-installed ESS — Ni200 at 99.6% Ni provides more than adequate corrosion protection. Upgrade to N4 (99.9% Ni, Fe ≤ 0.04%) only if your packs are deployed in continuous salt-spray conditions (offshore, marine vessel, tropical coastal with no enclosure) or if trace iron is unacceptable for your application's specification. The cost premium for N4 is approximately 15–20%.
Yes. The same Ni200 chemistry is available in any width from 5–240mm, any thickness from 0.05–1.0mm, and any pitch from our standard die library (18.5/19.0/19.5/20.2/20.5mm) or custom-tooled to your specification. Custom tooling lead time is 10–12 working days via our in-house Sodick EDM shop. MOQ remains 5 kg regardless of whether the dimensions are standard or custom.
